We are delighted to share with you our new report “Global accommodation: The road to net-zero emissions” today.
Decarbonization is a major challenge for the accommodation sector – in particular after the disastrous impact of COVID-19. To achieve net zero emissions until 2050, global accommodations will have to reduce emissions by 6 to 7 percent per year. This is the equivalent of eliminating all residential emissions in roughly 2.3 million households per year. The estimated total cost for the accommodation sector is 768 billion Euros.
In a groundbreaking report published today, Booking.com and EY Parthenon show for the first time in detail how to master this challenge, what it takes to achieve net zero emissions, and what all stakeholders in the accommodation sector can do to make this transition a success. Based on original primary research, the report presents transition pathways with concrete abatement measures, their associated costs, and opportunities for implementation without overburdening accommodations. The good news is that there is a wide range of measures that significantly reduce emissions and which can in principle be implemented profitably. They provide accommodations with a double dividend: they cut both emissions and operating costs.
Please find attached the highlights and key findings of the report. You can access the full report here. The executive summary can be found here in 16 languages.
