“From Crisis to Endemic: Stumbling or Pressing Ahead?”

November 10, 2021

Launched on 26 October 2021, the “From Crisis to Endemic: Stumbling or Pressing Ahead?” report examines how key ASEAN economies – Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam – are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. It also highlights key economic and political challenges and opportunities ASEAN countries will face when recovering from the pandemic.

This report serves as an update to the Renewed Concerns in Key ASEAN Economies report published by the SIIA in August 2020 which examined the region’s politics and growth prospects of key economies after the first COVID-19 wave. Since then, the situation has evolved, with countries struggling to respond to a more infectious Delta variant in 2021, resulting in intermittent regulations, and a climate of unpredictability.
