German specialty chemicals company Evonik has begun constructing its new plant in Singapore’s sustainable energy and chemicals park on Jurong Island.
The plant will expand Evonik’s production of alkoxides to serve growing demand in Southeast Asia, and boost Evonik’s position as one of the largest alkoxide manufacturers in the world. Alkoxide catalysts are used primarily in #biodiesel production and synthesis applications in #pharmaceutical and agricultural industries.
In the future, alkoxide catalysts will also play a bigger role in the circular economy, as they are used in the chemical recycling of PET plastics.
The state-of-the-art facility will aim for zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, with these efforts contributing to Singapore’s Sustainable Jurong Island strategy and the city-state’s 2030 Green Plan.
The plant will enhance supply security for customers in the region and further strengthen the company’s global alkoxides business. It is also Evonik’s first alkoxides production in Southeast Asia.
