Committee
INTRODUCTION
The aviation sector in Singapore has continued its strong recovery, with Changi Airport handling 67.7 million passengers in 2024, reaching 99.1% of pre-pandemic levels. However, the sector faces labour constraints and rising operational costs, especially in ground handling and maintenance, partly due to an ageing workforce. At the same time, airport infrastructure is nearing capacity, with aircraft movements increasing 11.5% year-on-year.
In response, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has introduced a series of initiatives, including:
- Expansion plans for Terminal 5, set to add capacity for 50 million passengers annually.
- Boosting workforce productivity via automation and robotics at Changi.
- Sustainability targets, including trials with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
Aerospace talent development partnerships with polytechnics and universities to address manpower gaps.
These efforts aim to strengthen Singapore’s role as a leading air hub while preparing the industry for long-term growth and resilience.
OBJECTIVES
The EuroCham Aerospace and Air Travel Committee contributes to enhancing the air hub in Singapore by engaging with the Singapore government to share issues committee members are facing as well as potential solutions. In addition, the committee advocates for Singapore’s adherence to international best practices regarding regulations and initiatives in the aerospace and air travel sector by offering input and support (as a common voice) for the development/reform of key laws and policies in this field, and calls for a greater voice of Singapore within the ASEAN community in this field. Furthermore, the committee provides thought leadership on developments in the aerospace sector. Committee members come from companies active in various segments of the aerospace & transport industry in APAC, including airlines, air freight, space, logistics, maintenance and manufacturing companies.
