SUMMARY:IPR Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On the 3rd of November 2015\, the Intellectual and Property Rights Committee will be meeting.  \n2015 has been a dynamic year for the IPR Committee with the launch of the ‘Illicit Trade Environment Index’ on the 28th of July 2015 and the organization of two customs events gathering representatives of businesses and of Singaporean authorities to discuss the harmful impact of illicit trade.  \nThis meeting will aim to draw the Strategic Plan for year 2016 by discussing the next steps with regards to the Illicit Trade Environment Index as well as debriefing the “Customs Attaches Roundtable: IPR Protection Through Effective Private-Public Partnerships” held on 13th of October. SUMMARY:Regional Trade Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On the 18th of November\, the Regional Trade Committee will be meeting. The theme of the meeting will be “The Myanmar Elections: Looking Ahead”. \n“A watershed moment is looming in Myanmar. Historic elections in November 2015 will put an end to constitutional rule by the military. Parliament will likely be dominated by opposition parties and a coalition government is expected to be formed. Consequences for business will be substantial but are challenging to predict. Will the formidable reform process started in 2011 continue or will the elections thwart further economic progress?” \nThis meeting will feature a presentation by Mr. Romain Caillaud\, Senior Director in the Global Risk and Investigations practice of FTI Consulting\, Singapore\, and Mr. Alexander Bohusch\, General Manager at Luther LLP Yangon. \nThe presentations will embrace the following points: \n– Analysis of the poll results \n– Outlook and next steps (international reactions and domestic negotiations) \n– Expectations in terms of trade liberalization \n– Foreseen reforms by new regulators \n– Impact for European businesses \n  \nThe presentation will be followed by Q&A and discussion with our members. \n  \nMr. Romain Caillaud is a Senior Director in the Global Risk and Investigations practice of FTI Consulting and is based in Singapore. Mr. Caillaud specialises in Southeast Asia and Myanmar where he has conducted and coordinated numerous political\, regulatory and business risks assessments as well as due diligence investigations for financial institutions and law firms. Prior to joining FTI Consulting\, Mr. Caillaud was a Managing Director with a Southeast Asia focused corporate advisory firm specialising in government affairs\, public policy and political risk analysis. Mr. Caillaud was responsible for the setup and management of the Yangon office of the firm. In parallel\, Mr. Caillaud was President of the French-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce. Prior to joining the corporate sector\, Mr. Caillaud spent periods as a Parliamentary Assistant in the French Senate and as an Analyst with the French Embassy in Myanmar\, the French Ministry of Defence and the Cambodian Ministry of Justice. \n Mr. Alexander Bohusch is  General Manager at Luther LLP Yangon. Mr. Bohusch spent longer periods of time and part of his practical legal training in\, inter alia\, Singapore\, the Philippines and Malaysia.  He has worked for Luther in Singapore as a “Registered Foreign Lawyer” since April 2010. SUMMARY:Financial Services Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On the 20th of November\, the Financial Services Committee will be meeting. \nThe meeting will feature a presentation by Ms. Alicia Garcia Herrero\, Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at NATIXIS\, on “Emerging Asia in 2016: Squeezed between the FED and China”. \n2016 is foreseen to be a challenging year as the FED will surely take action to normalize interest rates while China may potentially be forced to take a mercantilist approach. With regard to this context\, Ms. Alicia Garcia Herrero will provide to members her analyze on ASEAN’s economic outlook for 2016\, given the possible need for the region to raise rates to defend their currencies and putting additionally pressures on growth and corporate. \nAlicia Garcia Herrero is Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at NATIXIS based in Hong Kong. In previous years Alicia held the following positions: Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA)\, Member of the Asian Research Program at the Bank of International Settlements (BIS)\, Head of the International Economy Division of the Bank of Spain\, Member of the Counsel to the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB)\, Head of Emerging Economies at the Research Department of Banco Santander and Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Alicia has always combined her career in the private and public sectors with a commitment to applied research and teaching. Alicia serves as a non-resident Senior Fellow in several think tanks. She is also adjunct professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and visiting faculty at China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai.
