DESCRIPTION:Image credit: WTO Centre Vietnam\n  \nIntroduction \nEuroCham will host Dr. Deborah Elms from the Asian Trade Centre who will provide an analysis in the most practical terms on RCEP\, member states’ sentiments toward it\, and the impacts it will have on businesses\, both for MNCs and SMEs. \nThis will be a very exciting and informative session as the region navigates around trade pacts and what it means for the region’s economies and geopolitics. \nAbout the speaker \n \n  \nDr. Deborah Elms\, \nExecutive Director\, Asian Trade Centre\nVice Chair\, Asia Business Trade Association \nDr. Deborah Elms is the Founder and Executive Director of the Asian Trade Centre. The Asian Trade Centre works with governments and companies to design better trade policies for the region. Dr. Elms sits on the International Technical Advisory Committee of the Global Trade Professionals Alliance and is Chair of the Working Group on Trade Policy and Law. She is also a senior fellow in the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Trade Academy. Previously\, Dr Elms was head of the Temasek Foundation Centre for Trade & Negotiations (TFCTN) and Senior Fellow of International Political Economy at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University\, Singapore. Her projects include the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations\, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)\, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and global value chains. She has provided consulting on a range of trade issues to governments including the United Arab Emirates\, Sri Lanka\, Cambodia\, Taiwan\, and Singapore. Dr. Elms received a PhD in political science from the University of Washington\, a MA in international relations from the University of Southern California\, and bachelor’s degrees from Boston University. Dr Elms publishes the Talking Trade Blog. \nAsian Trade Centre \nThe Asian Trade Centre (ATC) is the premier regional thought leader\, advocate and educator for trade in Asia. DESCRIPTION:The EuroCham HR Committee presents the exclusive session on “Women in Leadership in Asia”.\nIn Asia\, rapid urbanisation\, growing affluence\, higher female education levels and lower birthrates have helped to boost female workforce participation. However\, many women are employed in the informal sector; and in the formal sector\, while more women are entering the workforce comparatively few have ascended to higher professional and managerial positions.\nWhile the road ahead isn’t clear yet\, it’s heartening to see that promoting women in leadership in Asia is on employers’ agendas\, with its implicit acknowledgement that creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce is good for employees\, it’s good for companies\, and it’s also good for society as a whole.\nThis event is a unique opportunity for HR professionals to hear from Ellen Ruan\, Regional Vice President\, HR Asia/Pacific and MEA\, what Danone is doing in Asia to promote Inclusive Diversity\, from Uma Thana Balasingam\, founder of Lean In Women in Tech who believes that together women can do more\, go further\, and change the world and from Patrick Rona co-founder of HeForShe Asia. \nThis exciting panel discussion will be moderated by Annabelle Thebaud\, HR Director at SCOR Asia Pacific. \nFeaturing speakers: \n \nUma Thana – Cofounder of Lean In Singapore \nUma is Vice President of Channels & Sales\, Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) for Riverbed. Lean In Singapore\, founded in 2016\, is a community of over 2000 women that comes together to be inspired\, empowered and educated with a focus on driving gender diversity in the workplace. \n \nEllen Ruan – Regional Vice President\, HR Asia/Pacific/Middle East at Danone \nEllen has been the HR Leader with 24 years of professional and diverse experience\, having worked with FMCG\, Food\, Pharmaceutical and Chemical Companies. Her outlook is global with international and regional experiences\, including: Paris\, Shanghai\, Singapore and Asia Pacific. She has taken leadership initiatives in driving the Culture and People transformations by streamlining the new structure\, new ways of working\, helping the business to turn around and accelerate the business results. Her passion is on Integrated Talent Management\, she is the accrediated internal coach\, focusing on developing the Asian Talents\, especialy the Women Talents for Danone Asia. \nAnnabelle Thebaud – Head of HR APAC at SCOR Reinsurance \nOver the past 20 years in leadership roles spanning across Finance/New Technology industries between Europe and APAC\, Annabelle has cultivated curiosity in other cultures and would define herself as a Business Strategy and Brand awareness Enabler to Attract Talent and Unleash their Potential. She has been an advocate to promote Diversity in her current role as APAC HR Director at SCOR who launched in 2016 a global women network and signed a global charter of equal opportunities between men and women in the working space. \nAnnabelle is also a certified career transformation and executive coach. \n \nBjorn Engelhardt – Senior Vice President\, Asia Pacific and Japan\, Riverbed Technology & co-founder of HeForShe Singapore \n  \nBjorn Engelhardt is the Senior Vice President of Riverbed Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ). In this role\, Engelhardt is responsible for leading the Riverbed team across its six APJ markets and driving Riverbed’s sales and distribution strategy.\nEngelhardt has 20 years of business\, IT and consultancy experience in the Asia Pacific and Japan region\, including security\, data center and virtualization\, network and application infrastructure\, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and emerging technologies. He joined Riverbed from Actifio\, where he served as Vice President & General Manager Asia Pacific & Japan. Previously Engelhardt held senior leadership roles with Symantec\, where most recently he led the Strategic Sales and Services Groups and previously was responsible for Symantec’s SaaS and emerging technologies groups. DESCRIPTION:Picture of the event:  At the Committee of Supply Debate on 5 March 2018\, the Ministry of Manpower announced a number of new policies and programmes. These include foreign workforce policy changes\, and enhancements to the Adapt & Grow initiative (please refer to www.mom.gov.sg/about-us/cos2018 for full details). \nEuroCham will host Second Minister of Manpower Mrs. Josephine Teo in a dialogue that will focus on the recent policy announcements by MOM and any key manpower issues of interest to the business community. \nAbout \n \n  \n  \nMrs Josephine Teo \nMinister\, Prime Minister’s Office\, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Manpower \n  \nMrs Josephine Teo was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office on 1 May 2017 where she oversees the National Population and Talent Division. She is concurrently Second Minister in the Manpower and Home Affairs ministries. She previously served in the Finance\, Transport\, and Foreign Affairs ministries. \nA Member of Parliament since 2006\, Mrs Teo was formerly Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education and Assistant Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). She represented the labour movement on the government-appointed Economic Strategies Committee and co-chaired the sub-committee on Fostering Inclusive Growth. Mrs Teo was concurrently Chief Executive Officer of the not-for-profit organisation Business China\, a platform launched by then Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and then China Premier Wen Jiabao to strengthen Singapore’s bicultural foundations\, and remains a member of its Board. \nShe is married and has three children. \n—- \nThis dialogue is open to EuroCham members only.
