DESCRIPTION:Event DetailsOn the 10th of July\, the HR Committee will convene for a special meeting with H.E. Dr. Michael Pulch\, European Union Ambassador to Singapore.\nThe theme of this meeting is ASEAN Policy & Human Capital. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with H.E Dr Michael Pulch and discuss how European companies can contribute to policies in building human capital and business leaders in ASEAN.\nThe purpose of this meeting is to exchange on policy priorities for ASEAN with the EU Ambassador\, and to understand the diplomatic dimension of developing a regional framework for human development.\nIn addition\, preliminary results from the EuroCham Survey of HR directors for the White Paper will be presented. \nAbout the Ambassador\n \nDr Michael Pulch is the European Union Ambassador to Singapore.\nBefore his arrival in Singapore in September 2013\, Dr Pulch headed the Russia Division in the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels\, where he coordinated EU policies on Russia and chaired the EU Interservice Group on Russia. Prior to that from 2006 to 2011 he was posted to Beijing as Deputy Chief of Mission of the EU Delegation to China\, in charge of EU policies on China and relations with Mongolia.\nDr Pulch entered the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986\, serving in the United Nations Directorate\, before he was attached to the German embassy in Seoul as political officer. During his posting to Washington as deputy head of the Economic Section he covered economic aspects of security policy.\nIn 1995 Dr Pulch joined the US Division of the European Commission in Brussels focussing on US foreign and security policy. From 1999 to 2003\, he was posted to the EU Delegation in Tokyo\, where he headed the Trade and Commerce Section that defines EU trade policy objectives for Japan. As deputy head of the European Commission’s East Asia Division in Brussels until 2006 he worked on political and economic aspects of EU relations with countries in the Far East/Australasia region. He also co-authored the EU’s first East Asia Policy Guidelines.\nDr Pulch holds degrees in law and political sciences from the universities of Bonn\, Paris and Cambridge. He received honorary citizenships of the State of Tennessee and the City of Little Rock\, Arkansas.He speaks English\, German\, French and Dutch.\n \nAbout the HR Committee \nThe HR Committee aims to represent the common interests of the European business community concerning human resources\, talent and leadership. SUMMARY:Regional Trade Committee Meeting - AEC Updates and the Post 2015 Agenda
DESCRIPTION:Event Details \nOn the 7th of July\, the Regional Trade Committee will be meeting.\nOur guest speaker Chris Humphrey\, Executive Director of the EU-ASEAN Business Council will be presenting on the ASEAN Economic Community and the findings of Non-Tariff Barriers hindering taxation and trade across the region. The findings encompass trade barriers faced by a variety of industries such as food & beverage\, electronics\, logistics\, manufacturing\, mining\, semiconductors and telecommunications.\nMr. Humphrey will also be presenting about the present state of the AEC\, followed by a discussion on the post-2015 agenda\, as well as discussing about what the ASEAN Business Advisory Council has been working on as a response from the private sector. Particular focus will be on Human Capital and Non-Tariff Barriers. The Committee will also provide updates on the Market Access paper that was the successful publishing of an industry study of companies with operations in Singapore and the region.\nAbout the speaker\n\nChris Humphrey is the Executive Director of the EU-ASEAN Business Council with more than a decade of experience running business units throughout Asia\, and over 20 years of experience of either working for or dealing with Governments and regulatory authorities.\nChris began his varied professional career as a UK Civil Servant where\, amongst other things\, he was a Private Secretary to a Minister and an Air Services Trade Negotiator covering the Asia Pacific Region. After leaving Government\, he moved to the private sector working mainly in China and Hong Kong. DESCRIPTION:Guest speaker Mr. Henry Syrett\, Partner\, Tax Practice at Ernst & Young Solutions LLP will be sharing on the following topic:The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore released revised Singapore Transfer Pricing Guidelines on 6 January 2015. The revised edition was broadly a collation of the existing guidelines and circulars that had been issued by the IRAS since 2006 relating to transfer pricing. However there were some additional technical points and requirements in the revised guidelines\, most notably an explicit requirement for taxpayers to prepare contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation. In this session Henry will provide some insight into the new rules\, focusing on the experiences of taxpayers as they look to navigate the revised guidelines and comply with the new requirements.\nAbout the speaker\n\nMr. Henry Syrett is a Partner in the tax practice of Ernst & Young in Singapore and he has been based in Singapore since 2007 providing advice on transfer pricing and operating model effectiveness (OME). DESCRIPTION:About the speaker\nJohn P. Leonard has been with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) since 1989 where he began his career as an Import Specialist in Boston\, Massachusetts.\nJohn has served in a variety of leadership positions in the field and CBP’s Washington DC Headquarters during his 25+ years of customs experience. These positions ranged from trade policy oversight and development\, trade automation and information systems deployment and trade enforcement.\nFrom 2008 – 2011 he served as Area Port Director of San Francisco\, responsible for all CBP operations in Northern California\, Nevada\, and Utah. As Area Port Director\, he oversaw the CBP clearance of nearly 5 million passengers per year at San Francisco International Airport and over 400\,000 cargo containers per year at the Oakland Seaport.\nIn 2012\, during his second tour at CBP Headquarters\, he was selected as the Acting Executive Director of Trade Policy and Programs. In this capacity\, John oversaw all policy decisions involving CBP’s enforcement and facilitation of international trade. In 2013\, he was selected as CBP Attaché\, Singapore. His current Area of Responsibility includes 17 countries\, including Singapore\, Malaysia\, Indonesia\, Australia\, and New Zealand.\nMr. Leonard holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Masters degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University. He is a graduate of the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School Senior Executive Fellows program. DESCRIPTION:On the 22nd of April Regional Trade Committee members will be gathering to provide inputs on the ASEAN Market Access Study.Committee members will be meeting to provide their insights and inputs with regards to the\n-Top 3 to 5 Market Access/Trade inhibiter issues \n-Background details of the issues\, the real impact on European businesses.\n-Specific real examples wherever possible of how these reduce/slow down trade or prevent European investments.\nFollowing the Committee Meeting discussion\, EuroCham’s team will gather together the inputs provided by Committee members.\nThe Study is the EU-ASEAN Business Council‘s main publication for the year bringing together insights from European Chamber’s in ASEAN\, among others\, and will be distributed to relevant Ministries and Senior Government officials during the 4th ASEAN-EU Business Summit in Kuala Lumpur this August. A key driving force behind the company’s success\, she sets its strategic direction as well as ensures synergies across all its divisions. Cariss has been lauded as one of the HR technology industry’s exceptional entrepreneurs\, having raised $10M in growth equity for her company in 2012.\nCariss’ extreme passion for the company is evident in her work and attitude\, which has been publicly acknowledged by being listed as 28th on BRW’s Top 50 Female Entrepreneurs in June 2006 and winning the Ernst and Young ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ for 2008 and the Victorian Telstra Women’s Business Award in 2009. DESCRIPTION:On the 4th of December a joint Committee Meeting took place including members of the Regional Finance and Tax and HR Committees. The fascinating presentation focused on Tax and Mobility Strategies for Expat and Asian Executives in Asia offering attendees a more holistic view of how to Manage Risks while Understanding Trends in the Region.On the December 4th 2014\, Mr. Don Riegger\, Partner at Deloitte offered the audience an overview with respect to the forces shaping mobility and their insights as to the management of short term business travellers. In addition\, he will be addressing tax and immigration aspects with regard to the Asia Pacific Region.\nManaging risks and understanding trends in the region are of major importance to companies thriving for innovation and growth. Failure to comply with domestic tax laws threatens to jeopardize the success of a company’s operations in the domestic market. Hence\, it is indispensable for companies to identify ways to comply with host location tax regulations. In addition\, appropriate mobility strategies allow for significant efficiency gains to emerge.\nMembers had the opportunity to gain a more holistic understanding with respect to tax and mobility strategies for expat and Asian Executives in the region and have the occasion to share their company’s experience.
