SUMMARY:Europe Day - Closed Door meeting
DESCRIPTION:Picture of the event: \n \n  \nBusinesses operating in hyper-competitive regions such as Asia need an effective pipeline of leaders to sustain long-term growth. The lack of leadership talent is consistently rated amongst the greatest business challenges in Asia.  \nWhile the specific nature of Asia’s leadership gaps vary across large local organizations and multinational corporations (MNCs)\, the magnitude and components of the challenge are consistent. MNCs can fill skill gaps with expatriates but struggle to capitalise on local expertise and relationships. Local family-owned enterprises often struggle to make the transition to a new generation’s way of leading. \nWith organisations in Asia grappling with change and challenged by multigenerational workforce management being one of the critical areas for HR professionals\, combined with ongoing talent shortage for skilled professionals\, it becomes increasingly important for organisations of today\, to focus on development of talent succession pipeline and initiate best practices for high-performance leadership. \nThis raises important questions: \nIs there a shortage of suitable talent and leadership in these regions? Or should we examine the validity of the “global leader” yardstick? \nHow can organisations in Asia Pacific bridge the leadership talent gap? \nWhat are the reasons for leadership shortage in Southeast Asia and how can organisations in the region step up efforts to promote leadership development? \nCan Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) help organisations rise to the challenge of leadership gaps? \nProgramme:  \n09.45 am: Registration (sharp)\n10.00 am: Receiving of Minister Chan Chun Sing\n10.05 am: Welcome by Mr Stefano Poli\, President EuroCham\n10.10 am: Round Table discussion\n11.15 am: End of the session \nThe VIP Reception of Europe Day Luncheon starts at 11.30 am. \nRegistration:  \nBy invitation only. The invitation is NOT applicable for the Europe Day Luncheon. You will need a separate registration for the Luncheon. Please use this link. \nAbout the Speaker:  \n \nMr Chan Chun Sing\nMinister in Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General\, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) \nMr Chan Chun Sing is currently Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).  On 1 October 2015\, Mr Chan was appointed Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association. \nOn 9 April 2015\, Mr Chan was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and relinquished his appointments as Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence\, both of which he had held since 1 September 2013.  At the Ministry of Social and Family Development\, he was responsible for improving social service delivery\, enhancing social safety nets and strengthening support for families in Singapore.  His previous appointments included Acting Minister for Community Development\, Youth and Sports (21 May 2011 to 31 October 2012) and Minister of State for Information\, Communications and the Arts (21 May 2011 to 31 July 2012). \nMr Chan was appointed Secretary-General of NTUC on 4 May 2015 after the NTUC Central Committee unanimously elected him to this appointment on 8 April 2015.  He was first appointed Deputy Secretary-General on 27 January 2015 by the NTUC Central Committee after joining NTUC on 23 January 2015 to help strengthen labour leadership at NTUC and the link between the Labour Movement and the Government.  He was re-elected as the NTUC Secretary-General by the NTUC National Delegates’ Conference on 29 October 2015. \nIn 2011\, Mr Chan left the Singapore Armed Forces to run in the 2011 General Election and was elected Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC).  During his military career with the Singapore Armed Forces (1987 to 2011)\, he held various appointments\, including the Chief of Army (2010 to 2011)\, Chief of Staff of Joint Staff (2009 to 2010) and Chief Infantry Officer (2007 to 2009). \nMr Chan also served on various statutory boards and government-linked companies\, including Singapore Totalisator Board (2011)\, ST Kinetics Limited (2010 to 2011)\, Civil Service College (2010 to 2011)\, Defence Science & Technology Agency (2009 to 2010)\, Defence Science Organisation (2009 to 2010) and International Enterprise Singapore (2006 to 2009). \nSponsors: \n \n \nOfficial Beer Sponsor:  \n \nWine & Champagne Sponsor:  \n  \nIn collaboration with:

SUMMARY:Malaysia Elections: Outcome Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Pictures of the event:  \n \n  \n  \nWhither Malaysia? Assessing the Impact for Investors of the Post-Election Political Transition \nFor the first time since Malaysia’s independence\, UMNO and its coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) have been voted out. The alliance that is taking over power\, Pakatan Harapan (PH)\, brings back together former UMNO stalwarts and then political opponents\, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim. \nWhile the transition to a new government is progressing smoothly\, the reshuffle of the country’s ruling elite is creating significant uncertainty. It remains unclear to what extent PH will now seek to overturn BN’s policies\, whether in relation to trade\, investment and the economy\, or to the country’s foreign policy including towards China. \nThe seminar will shed light on the political and social dynamics behind the earth-shattering election’s results. It will also provide insights on Malaysia’s new leadership. Last\, it will offer prospective views on the impact for investors of the ongoing transition. \nSpeakers: \nMohamed Nawab Osman is the Coordinator of the Malaysia Program at RSIS and a Senior Advisor at Asia Group Advisors. He is a leading expert on the politics of Malaysia and of Muslim politics in Southeast and South Asia. His opinion pieces have been featured in leading media including The Straits Times\, The Nation and Jakarta Post. Nawab also is a frequent commentator on political Islam\, terrorism and Southeast Asian politics on CNN\, BBC\, Al-Jazeera and Channel News Asia. Nawab is a social activist and serves as the President of Critical Xchange. He also sits in the board of Association of Muslim Professionals. In 2014\, he was nominated to attend the inaugural Young Southeast Asian Leader’s Initiative. \nRomain Caillaud is a Director at Asia Group Advisors. He oversees the firm’s project execution teams in Malaysia\, Singapore and Myanmar. Romain has more than a decade of advisory experience in Southeast Asia in extractive industries\, telecoms and technology\, financial services\, and the food & beverage industry. He served as President of the French-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce from 2012 to 2015. \nOnly for members of EuroCham or EU-ASEAN Business Council.\nClick here to register.  \nJointly organised by:  \n \n  \n  \n  \n
