DESCRIPTION:EuroCham in collaboration with Rabobank cordially invites you to join Financial Markets experts\, Michael Every and Jan Lambregts giving their valuable insights and outlook for 2019: \n\nFinancial Markets Outlook 2019: “Puzzling Times\, cubed” by\n\nRabobank’s Global Head of Financial Markets Research Jan Lambregts and Senior Asia-Pacific Strategist Michael Every. \nAs Nils Bohr once said\, “Prediction is very difficult\, especially if it’s about the future.” However\, ten years into this global recovery there is more uncertainty about what the next year holds than for decades.  Is the US economy set to boom on tax cuts or bust as the Fed keeps hiking? Can Europe survive the sunset of QE\, and what will Brexit look like? And is China a source of stability or instability? \nMoreover\, can the global economy survive a trade war? And can global institutions survive the US’ new stance? The answers are like a puzzle. \nAbout the Speakers\nJan Lambregts\, Global Head of Financial Markets Research\, Rabobank\nBased in London\, Jan Lambregts oversees a worldwide team of analysts and strategists who cover macro\, foreign exchange\, fixed income\, credit and agri commodities for key clients. Before his move to London in 2009 to head up the global Financial Markets Research team\, Jan lived and worked in Singapore and Hong Kong for seven years\, covering macro\, FX and rates strategy for Rabobank clients\, with a particular focus on Japan and China. A frequent speaker and panellist at conferences and roundtables\, Jan is also one of Rabobank’s key media spokespeople on developments in financial markets\, fulfilling regular interview requests from CNBC\, Bloomberg\, Reuters and other leading media organisations. A cum laude graduate of Tilburg University in the Netherlands\, Jan holds a Master’s degree in micro/macro-economics\, with further specialisations in finance and international trade. \n  \nMichael Every\, Head of Financial Markets Research Asia-Pacific\, Rabobank\nBased in Hong Kong\, Michael analyses the major developments in the Asia-Pacific region and contributes to the bank’s various economic research publications for internal and external customers and to the media. Michael has nearly two decades of experience working as an Economist and Strategist. Before Rabobank\, he was a Director at Silk Road Associates\, a strategy consultancy based in Bangkok. Prior to this\, he was Senior Economist and Fixed Income Strategist at the Royal Bank of Canada based in both London and Sydney. SUMMARY:EuroCham Roundtable discussion: Counting and Cutting the Cost of Regulatory Reporting - World class made in Austria
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to attend our 2-hours business breakfast to discuss the topic of “Counting and Cutting the Cost of Compliance” with regard to the World Class Austrian regulatory reporting model\, Austrian Reporting Services (or short “AuRep”). \nThe Austrian national bank (OeNB) and the financial institutions in Austria have joined forces and use new technologies to create a new Regulatory Value Chain. The AuRep GmbH is co-owned by eight of the largest Austrian banking groups\, representing 90% of the Austrian bank market and 800 banks. It runs a common software platform based on BearingPoint’s Abacus which works as a central interface between the banks and the OeNB supporting national and international supervisory and statistical reporting. \nThe main drivers for the project were to lighten the compliance burden and to reduce costs and complexity of reporting processes in Austria. Nearly 600 Austrian financial institutions are currently using the platform in Austria which has enabled streamlined communications and aligned processes with the regulatory authority. The AuRep project also equips the participating financial institutions with a flexible and configurable solution to easily adopt new tenants and regulations. \nThe innovative solution increases the efficiency of supervisory processes\, while reducing risk and cost for both\, financial institutions and the regulator. It’s a milestone in the terms of innovation and reshaping the way of reporting which potentially could be replicated in other markets. \nJoin us in this opportunity to discuss the future of regulatory compliance as we continue to push the boundary on innovation and reshape regulatory reporting. \nThis interactive discussion will look at key issues including:\n– The importance of selecting the right operational structure for compliance.\n– The impact of the rise of reporting utilities\, driven by the relentless demand on compliance teams to cut costs.\n– The extent to which complexity is a major driver of those costs\, and the benefits associated with adopting uniform\, centralised processes. \nProgramme: \n8:30 AM: Registration and Breakfast \n9:00 AM: Welcome Remarks – Her Excellency Mrs. Karin Fichtinger-Grohe\, Ambassador of Austria to Singapore\n9:10 AM: Roundtable Discussion\nPanellist:\n– Dr. Johannes Turner\, Director Statistics Department\, Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB)\n– Representative of Monetary Authority of Singapore (TBC)\n– Representative of a Bank in Singapore (TBC)\n– Dr. Maciej Piechocki\, BearingPoint RegTech Management Board\nModerator: TBC\n10:20 AM: Closing Remarks \n10:30 AM: End of Meeting  \nDr. Maciej Piechocki \nBearingPoint RegTech Management Board \nDr. Maciej Piechocki is RegTech Management Board Member at BearingPoint. SUMMARY:Malaysia Elections: Outcome Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Pictures of the event:  \n \n  \n  \nWhither Malaysia? Assessing the Impact for Investors of the Post-Election Political Transition \nFor the first time since Malaysia’s independence\, UMNO and its coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) have been voted out. SUMMARY:Europe Day - Closed Door meeting
DESCRIPTION:Picture of the event: \n \n  \nBusinesses operating in hyper-competitive regions such as Asia need an effective pipeline of leaders to sustain long-term growth. The lack of leadership talent is consistently rated amongst the greatest business challenges in Asia.  \nWhile the specific nature of Asia’s leadership gaps vary across large local organizations and multinational corporations (MNCs)\, the magnitude and components of the challenge are consistent. MNCs can fill skill gaps with expatriates but struggle to capitalise on local expertise and relationships. Local family-owned enterprises often struggle to make the transition to a new generation’s way of leading. \nWith organisations in Asia grappling with change and challenged by multigenerational workforce management being one of the critical areas for HR professionals\, combined with ongoing talent shortage for skilled professionals\, it becomes increasingly important for organisations of today\, to focus on development of talent succession pipeline and initiate best practices for high-performance leadership. \nThis raises important questions: \nIs there a shortage of suitable talent and leadership in these regions? Or should we examine the validity of the “global leader” yardstick? \nHow can organisations in Asia Pacific bridge the leadership talent gap? \nWhat are the reasons for leadership shortage in Southeast Asia and how can organisations in the region step up efforts to promote leadership development? \nCan Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) help organisations rise to the challenge of leadership gaps? \nProgramme:  \n09.45 am: Registration (sharp)\n10.00 am: Receiving of Minister Chan Chun Sing\n10.05 am: Welcome by Mr Stefano Poli\, President EuroCham\n10.10 am: Round Table discussion\n11.15 am: End of the session \nThe VIP Reception of Europe Day Luncheon starts at 11.30 am. \nRegistration:  \nBy invitation only. The invitation is NOT applicable for the Europe Day Luncheon. You will need a separate registration for the Luncheon. SUMMARY:EuroCham Myanmar Energy\, Infrastructure and Construction Update
DESCRIPTION:Pictures of the event: \n \n \nNever a dull moment in Myanmar’s energy and infrastructure space. The change in Union Minister has certainly sparked a jolt of energy into a long list of stalled and uncertain projects. Four large LNG to Power projects received Government approval (“NTP”) on the eve of a reboot of Myanmar’s foreign currency and Government guarantee policy. Long stalled hydropower projects are told to get a move on\, and the IFC delivered a brand new Model PPA to the Government. Going forward\, there are key changes in the approval process and various project documents (please welcome the “Concession Agreement”\, for example) while the MOEE gets down to business on tariff expectations with prospective sponsors. If that were not enough\, a new PPP Law is about to see the light (in a very unexpected way) just as the massive Yangon Expressway project is gathering speed. \nTOPICS: \nDeal Roundup: Deals and Projects\, Present and Upcoming \n\n– LNG to Power: 4 new LNG/Gas to power projects receive Notice to Proceed\n– The Government’s priority infrastructure projects list\n– Hydropower plants update: we are moving forward again\n– Solar: new projects in the pipeline\n– Midstream and downstream oil and gas: now or never\n\n  \nNew Developments affecting Myanmar Gas\, Hydro and Solar PPAs: Comparison Table \n\n– Will the Myanmar Government insist on MMK for PPAs?\n– Update on sovereign guarantees\n– Myanmar PPA Tariff structure update: less capacity more energy payments?\n– Differences in PPAs in payment rights during force majeure period\n– Termination payments: are they bankable in Myanmar PPAs?\n– The new MOEE/IFC hydropower PPA template\n\n  \nBrownfield Opportunities: Acquiring a Stake of an Existing Power or Fuel Project \n\n– Buying a stake of an existing solar project: what to look for in the due diligence\n– Fuel terminals on Myanmar Port Authority Land: how is the lease structured?\n– Onshore structure: how to convert a Myanmar company into joint ventures (without a new entity)?\n– Offshore structure: why you need two Singapore companies\, not one\n\n  \nFSRU/Transmission lines\, pipelines and FSRUs \n\n– Outlook for new TX and gas pipeline projects\n– Myanmar shipping and port regulations affecting FSU’s and FSRUs\n– What are the legal aspects of right of way in Myanmar?\n– Approval process for pipeline and storage construction\n\n  \nReal Estate and Infrastructure: Update on Construction Projects in Myanmar \n\n– Land transportation infrastructure: get ready for a big push\n– Residential: the new structure of mixed use real estate development projects post Condo Law\n– How to split the onshore and offshore portion of an EPC contract?\n– Approvals and registration of foreign engineers\n\n  \nClic here to download the agenda  \nRegistration: \nNo more registration.  \nProgramme: \n \n9.00 am: Registration & Networking\n9.30 am: Welcome Remarks\n9.35 am: Introduction EuroCham Myanmar\n10.00 am: Speakers speech\n11.45 am: Q & A\n12.00 am: End \nAbout the Speakers:  \n \nMr Edwin Vanderbruggen\, Senior Partner\, Yangon \nEdwin Vanderbruggen is one of Myanmar’s most prominent foreign legal advisers. DESCRIPTION:  \nSummary of event: \nAt the panel dialogue held on the 14th of February\, EuroCham hosted 14 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) at a dialogue on building the next generation of HR professionals\, and understanding what helps Singapore tick when it comes to manpower and labour practices. SUMMARY:EuroCham Breakfast: General Data Protection Regulation
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY OF EVENT \nEuroCham hosted a session on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that comes into force on 25th May 2018. Mr. Bruno Gencarelli\, Head of Unit in charge of international data flows and consumer protection at the European Commission\, gave the audience an explanation of this regulation that impacts all companies that (will) have business dealings with clients based in the EU. The presentation was followed by a panel debate moderated by Mr. Jonathan Kok\, Head of RHTLaw Wessing’s Intellectual Property & Technology Practice\, during which Mr. Gencarelli and Mr. Tan Shong Ye\, Partner at PWC Risk Services\, further discussed the implications of the GDPR for businesses in Singapore and Asia. \nMr. Gencarelli started by explaining the three main reasons for establishing a new European framework on data protection: technological developments and globalisation\, constitutionalisation of the fundamental right to data protection\, and fragmentation of the legislative framework with different translations of the previous directive into national laws. Implementing a harmonised and simplified framework with one single set of data protection rules for the EU that creates an equal level playing field and cuts the red tape was therefore unavoidable and much needed. The new framework offers rules that are fit for the digital single market\, puts individuals in control of their own data and ensures a modern data protection governance system. Instead of treating data based on a ‘one size fits all’ approach\, it is treated based on the risks they impose from a privacy point of view. \nMr. Gencarelli emphasised that high standards of data protection contribute to free\, secure and competitive trade flows. SUMMARY:EuroCham Breakfast Talks: Disruptive Innovation and Regulation: Friend or Foe?
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY OF EVENT \nIn the age of the digital economy\, technological advances and disruptors play a major role in shaping society. At the breakfast talk with the Warren Tseng\, General Manager of Uber\, Zann Kwan\, CEO of Bitcoin Exchange\, and Professor Tan Chorh Chuan of the Ministry of Health discussed how disruptive innovation is a force for good despite industry having to endure some shakeups. The Singapore government in this aspect has been very encouraging towards innovative industries and have reacted positively about the impacts on transportation\, banking\, and healthcare. \nAfter all\, as Nele Cornelis\, Executive Director of EuroCham having quoted the famed author Amit Kalantri\, the “Telephone did not come into existence from the persistent improvement of the postcard”. Disruptive innovation may be the way forward but understanding the perspectives of both the regulator and innovator is important to appreciate the rationale behind certain actions\, and that disruptive change cannot be evaluated in a vacuum\, nor disregarded. \n \nSYNOPSIS: \nNew technologies or business models can profoundly shake the functioning of existing industries and bring societal changes. As the OECD notes\, these disruptive innovations can deliver important benefits to competition and consumers and can stimulate innovation and price competition from established providers. However\, they can also give rise to legitimate public policy concerns and create demands for regulation. In such an environment\, what are the potential market impacts of disruptive innovation\, and how are regulators responding? \nThis Breakfast Talk\, hosted by the European Chamber of Commerce\, brings together industry thought leaders\, technology experts and policy makers for a discussion around the impact of disruptive technologies on regulatory and policy objectives and collaborative innovations. \nCentral themes to the discussion will be the potential benefits of disruptive innovation and the role of regulation and its impact of innovation. Panellists will also be addressing the relationship between the technology cycle and the regulatory cycle. Finally\, presenters will offer their insights into how\, in an increasingly fractured\, but also globalized world\, the industry can derive the potential benefits of disruptive technology\, working in a collaborative way. \nEVENT: \n8:15AM: Registration\n8:40AM: Guests be seated\, breakfasts serving begins\n8:45AM: Opening Remarks\n8:50AM: Breakfast Talk: Disruptive innovation and impacts on regulation and policy\n9:50AM: Discussion and Q&A\n10:30AM: Close & Networking \nSPEAKERS: \nProfessor Tan Chorh Chuan\, Executive Director at Office for Healthcare Transformation & Chief Health Scientist\, Ministry of Health \nZann Kwan\, CEO at Bitcoin Exchange Pte Ltd \nWarren Tseng\, General Manager (Singapore & Malaysia)\, Uber\n \nProfessor David Chan\, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Behavioural Sciences Institute at the Singapore Management University (Moderator) \nABOUT THE SPEAKERS:\n \nTAN CHORH CHUAN\nCHIEF HEALTH SCIENTIST & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR\, OFFICE FOR HEALTHCARE TRANSFORMATION \nProfessor Tan Chorh Chuan is the inaugural Chief Health Scientist and concurrently Executive Director of the Office for Healthcare Transformation the Ministry of Health (MOH). \nProfessor Tan served as President of the National University of Singapore and held the positions of NUS Provost\, then Senior Deputy President and Dean of the NUS Faculty of Medicine.
