On 2 Sep, EuroCham co-organised an IMDA Consultation webinar on the “Proposed Full SMS Sender ID Regime”, to share the proposed new measures including the Full SMS Sender ID Registry (SSIR) Regime and Exploring Anti-Scam SMS Filtering Solution. Under the proposal, IMDA provided a transition period starting in October 2022 as the Full SSIR Regime commenced in December 2022, where organisations that do not register their Sender IDs with the SSIR will no longer be able to send Sender ID SMS to Singapore mobile users.
IMDA would like to inform and remind our members that the full SMS Sender ID Registry Regime (“Full SSIR Regime”) will be taking effect on 31 January 2023. Only registered Sender IDs will reach Singapore users with effect from 31 January 2023. All non-registered Sender IDs will be channelled to a Sender ID bearing the name “Likely-SCAM” for a transitionary period of around 6 months. These SMS will be blocked after the transitionary period.
Merchants may wish to register the Sender ID or any other Sender IDs they intend as soon as possible, to avoid any disruption to SMS communications with their customers. Merchants with the valid identification (i.e., the UEN) can then register with the SSIR on SMS Portal (https://smsregistry.sg/web/login), and protect the Sender IDs they wish to use when sending SMS to Singapore mobile users.
