The European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore has a role to amplify the voices of European companies with operations in Singapore and ASEAN.

The Whitebook is a reflection of this mission, promoting an exchange of views between Singapore and Europe while encouraging the private sector to act responsibly, constructively and collaboratively with Singapore’s stakeholders in mind.
It is a summation of ideas and solutions which can be employed to create together a sustainable world for future generations.

The Sustainability Whitebook will be based on the latest issues and opportunities in the focus areas of Circular economy, Smart Mobility, Clean & Efficient Energy, Sustainable Food & Nutrition and Green Finance. It is a collective expression of the views and best practices of EuroCham’s members, and other European or Europe related organisations and enterprises with operations in Singapore. It is intended for the use of EuroCham’s members and other interested parties, and not solely for a particular company and/or industry.

Singapore’s authorities have expressed interest to continue growing in sustainability, investing in innovation and to keep on learning from viable examples in Singapore and abroad. Europe has proven to be qualified as a reliable partner in this process.
The Sustainability Whitebook features European excellence in sustainability, its innovation, its trend-setting and creative technology and aims to inspire private and public sectors to join forces to overcome challenges that are beyond national borders.

The three chapters of the Whitebook are:

Chapter 1: Position Papers

i. Position paper on Singapore’s Zero Waste Masterplan
ii. Position paper on Singapore’s Carbon Emission Tax
iii. Green Finance position paper
iv. Smart Mobility position paper
v. Clean and Efficient Energy position paper
vi. Report of Sustainable Food and Traceability in ASEAN

The information and views put forward in the position papers are solely intended to facilitate a constructive exchange with its members and the Singapore authorities and regulators. It draws directly from the knowledge and expertise of EuroCham members. They cover the state of sustainability development in Singapore and the region and make a comparison with the developments, goals and objectives in Europe.

They aim to capture the essence of the issues and roadblocks raised for the implementation of sustainability projects in Singapore and ASEAN and propose constructive recommendations that promote Singapore’s and Europe’s development in sustainability.

Chapter 2: Sustainability Survey 2020
This study by EuroCham will survey 100 senior leaders from European organisations in Singapore to assess their rate of sustainability in Singapore and the region. The quantitative findings in the report could help with detecting possible gaps between companies needs and government efforts.

Chapter 3: Company profiling
The Whitebook will feature EuroCham members and their expertise in the area of sustainability.

Many companies are actively integrating sustainability principles into their businesses, and they are doing so by pursuing goals that go far beyond earlier concern for reputation management—for example, saving energy, developing green products, and retaining and motivating employees, all of which help companies capture value through growth and return on capital. This section in the Whitebook will capture the essence of why and how companies are addressing sustainability.
